Contribution: UX research & evaluation, project plan, interviews protocols, co-design workshops, and 'smart building experience manager' concept

Smart buildings use the newest technologies related to the Internet of Things (IoT). Those technologies incorporate data products and services to be more efficient and sustainable. The current trend in the last decade for smart buildings focuses on sustainability, such as energy management consumption efficiency. However, as the sustainable part is improving, the future aims towards users’ wellbeing in their daily activities, services, and experiences.

Objective

Who will be the future stakeholders in Smart Buildings? How might we improve smart building stakeholders’ experiences in the future? KONE flow concept focuses on people that move in buildings every day. With the trend of digital services and IoT, the company aims to find those answers in Smart Buildings.

What did we find?

In-depth interviews, field research, and co-design workshops in Amsterdam, Dubai, and Shanghai lead to three experience goals and three stakeholders' stories in 2030 that will impact Smart Buildings.

Three stories, three future personas

In our research, three main stakeholders will have a crucial role in Smart Buildings. They are the Smart building experience manager, the digital twin manager, and the end-user. These videos tell who they are and what will be their role in the future.
