Pilates is a physical fitness system developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century. One of the classic pieces of equipment used to practice a pilates routine is a reformer. The client brief was to redesign and manufacture a batch of fifteen reformers to open a second "Universo Pilates" studio.

Objective & Process

The client's objective was to reduce the initial investment costs by manufacturing locally instead of buying new imported equipment. The first task was to do a teardown to identify components, parts, and mechanisms. Then, we looked for local suppliers and planned the manufacturing, assembly, and delivery.

A renew classic

To keep the classic iconic shape, we decided to change the material. Instead of hardwood, we used Russian birch plywood due to its edge detail to generate a new style. The manufacturing was in collaboration with TUUX design studio, our most valuable partner in this project.
