Lighter bus seats for passengers reduce gross weight on tourism buses. This weight reduction decreases fuel consumption and emissions. Precom is a Mexican company that manufactures bus seats. Their objective was to design a lighter modular seat using BASF engineering materials.
How we did it?
The design approaches were Human-Centred Design (HCD), focused on the passengers' needs, and co-design workshops with Precom and BASF. The design process had five design stages:
Research.
Design concepts.
Concept development.
Final design.
Ergonomic simulator & scale prototype.
The design outcome
A contemporary design.
A modular product architecture for tailored configurations.
Gross weight reduction around 27.80%
