Smart cities invest in human, social capital, transportation, and communication resources to fuel sustainable economic growth and citizens' wellbeing. With the upcoming 5G connectivity, autonomous vehicles and real-time services will develop further in cities. LuxTurrim 5G+ is a consortium project that aims to provide the urban infrastructure through Smart poles for Smart cities.
What do we research about Smart Cities?
The project required broadening our research about a smart city ecosystem. From a holistic perspective, smart cities link services, products, and data to improve their daily operations. All the city data is collected in a data marketplace by the sensors installed in the urban infrastructure. Then, data is processed to create data products that the city services use to predict and automatize processes in real-time.
The activities realized during the research were:
Online co-design workshops with citizens.
Desk research about emerging technologies trends and benchmarking.
In-depth interviews with experts.

Services & Products!
Through a citizen-centric approach, the outcome of our contribution was four Smart furniture concept collections -Loop, Ambit, Edge, and Flow- displayed using virtual reality, three full-scale prototypes, and an infographic model of the project's product-service ecosystem.
VR Ambit Collection
Inspired by traditional European cities, the Ambit collection has a sober, simple, and timeless aesthetic that hides the technology discreetly to respects historic buildings. Each team member developed one of the collections, the one that I designed was Ambit.
