Iconic chairs in design are usually associated with timeless aesthetic products. However, a good design considers ergonomic factors and the users' activities in the design process. The objective was to learn how to draw an ergonomic outline of a work chair.
How we design it?
HAXA chair design uses Mexican anthropometric dimensions to draw guidelines for the seat, back, and armrest locations. Then, we explored the form using scale models. With a defined concept, we moved to full-scale prototypes and iterate until we reached the final design.
Light, simple & classy
Using red cotton ribbons, we traced the back's curvature and seat to create thin surfaces. However, the tension generated by the ribbon is high. For this reason, we selected maple wood for its mechanical properties to support those tensions.
